Signs you should be seen urgently

Swelling that spreads toward the eye or down the neck, or any difficulty breathing or swallowing, is a medical emergency — seek immediate care.

Why waiting is risky

An infected tooth doesn’t heal on its own. Left untreated, the infection can spread to surrounding bone and soft tissue. Acting early often means the difference between a simple extraction and a more complex, costly procedure. If you’re unsure whether your pain qualifies, our toothache dentist page can help you decide.

What to do right now

Call us at (630) 549-7916 — we keep room for same-day emergency appointments. In the meantime, rinse with warm salt water, take an OTC pain reliever as directed, and use a cold compress for swelling. Medicaid patients can see our Medicaid emergency dentist page for coverage details.

Frequently asked questions

How fast can I be seen for a dental emergency?

We reserve time daily for emergencies and can often see you the same day. Call as early as possible so we can prioritize your visit.

Is an extraction always necessary, or can the tooth be saved?

We always try to save a natural tooth first — often with a root canal. Extraction is recommended only when a tooth is too damaged or infected to save.

Does insurance or Medicaid cover emergency extractions?

Emergency dental services are generally covered by most PPO plans and by Illinois Medicaid. We verify your benefits before treatment.

Dr. Valika and his team at Bliss Dental are phenomenal. I found myself with a dental emergency, and he promptly got me in to be seen. From start to finish, he made the experience pain-free and provided compassionate care. He is someone who takes pride in the exceptional treatment he provides to his patients - and that is clear by his work. Not only is he a skilled dentist, but he has a fantastic bedside manner as well. I felt like he thoroughly answered all of my questions and guided me through each treatment step. I had an amazing experience at Bliss. My mom had a very difficult root canal done here and the whole process me and my mom felt very comfortable. We felt as we were in good hands. I loved how caring they were with everything and explained the whole process. We both felt as we walked out of that dental office that we were well informed on what was done and what needed to be done next. We had no questions left to ask by the time we left. I would recommend anyone who is looking to get ANY dental work to go here for anything the doctors and assistants will explain everything and will leave you happy with any results.
